Publicising IAF's saker falcon crowdfunding campaign
Date: 28 June 2016
Dear FHT enthusiasts,
Please could you share this campaign with the members of Falconry Heritage Trust or on the club’s social media if you have an account:
https://chuffed.org/project/action-for-the-saker-falcon. IAF is committed to conserving birds of prey and needs the public’s help to do so.
Falconers care about the conservation of birds of prey and it is a goal that IAF is proud to work towards. Without thriving wild populations of the birds we use to hunt, or the prey we hunt them with, falconry may come under political pressure and may eventually become unsustainable. Because of this it is imperative that IAF, and falconers around the world, act to protect these species.
In recent years the population of saker falcon (Falco cherrug) has dropped by 50%, yet the reason for this decline is unknown. Without this knowledge it is impossible to implement targeted conservation programmes and therefore it is important that IAF carries out research into this decline.
IAF is sharing the cost of satellite tags to track the migration of saker falcons, in order to determine the main causes of mortality; however, we cannot afford the cost alone and are partly relying on donations.
We need the help of falconers and bird lovers from around the world.
Please share the campaign on the link above with all your members.
