Fernán González (died 970) was the first autonomous count of Castile, son of Gonzalo Fernández de Burgos, who had been named count of Arlanza and the Duero around the year 900, and by tradition a descendant of semi-legendary judge Nuño Rasura. His mother Muniadona was so well remembered that the later Counts of Castile would sometimes be recorded by Iberian Muslim scholars as Ibn MÄma Duna (descendant of Muniadona).

Comments from Francisco Javier Rodríguez Viñuelas:
According to the legend (appears in the POEMA DE FERNÁN GONZÁLEZ, an extensive epic poem) Count Fernán González sold, for little money, his goshawk (azor) and his horse to the King of León. The sales contract contained that if they were not paid, the amount would increase twice every day that the payment was not made. It increased so much that when the Count Fernán Núñez, in the face of the laziness and dismissal of the King of León, claimed the payment, it was such a large amount of money that he had to grant the independence of Castilla as payment.

The FHT aims to establish a portal for the world's falconers and other interested parties to access aspects of the sport's rich heritage by linking existing physical archives, including international private and public collections, through the medium of an electronic archive. This archive features falconry furniture, works of art, books, correspondence from leading falconers and film and photographic material for the education and interest of falconer and scholar alike. We hope that, whatever your background or interest in our sport, you may find something of value through our archive to deepen your knowledge, understanding and passion for falconry and will help us, through your support, to preserve this precious cultural heritage for future generations.
