During the war a number of highly trained Peregrine falcons were used to catch and kill carrier pigeons bearing messages from enemy agents. The birds would swoop down on the pigeons with a terrific speed like a dive bomber and bring the pigeon to ground. The messages were then passed to the intelligence Service for investigation. Photos shows: Ursula - the falcon - swopps to conquer - the Pigeon falls to earth after being struck with terrific force by the falcon.
Photo was taken in July 1945.
With many thanks to BFC and Tony James.
