The first sheet of the notebook π and the last sheet of the notebook χ were glued on the contreplats; the three other sheets of these two notebooks were the subject of a ruling

CONTENT: A1r white, A3r Tabula, A8v hunter and hawks, B1r first chapter: Della generatione and natura delli Sparavieiri ...
Scrovemo della generatione and natura delli sparavieri quanto siano piu nobili, I7v chapter 66 ending in I8v by e perfetissima.
The text, for the use of the raptor breeder, is divided into three parts: description of the different varieties according to the trees on which they
nest; the sprinkling of hawks and the usual care to be given; the different problems and the appropriate remedies in case of illness.
The treaty is preceded by a table of 66 chapters. It is numbered with cross-referenced pages [ff. [V] - [VIII]). The table corresponds to the text which is therefore complete. The text can be divided into three unequal parts: (1) ch. 1 and 2, highly developed (see 1-13),
ornithological content, describe the various varieties of hawks, distinguished according to an unusual criterion, the nature of trees
on which they nest; (2): chs. 3 to 10, still long enough (pages 13-38), deal with the care of the hawks and their usual care; (3): chs. 11 to 66, for the most part short (ff 38-63), of therapeutic content, treat the pains of birds and appropriate remedies.
ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION: 12 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS, with pen and red ink, one full page, the others 2/3 of page. They represent: birds in flight during a hunting scene in the forest, with a rider and dogs, and a village in the distance, a falconer, with his falconer at his belt, presenting the bird with two characters in dress of city, in front of a palace; the other drawings represent the bird in flight, at the approach of its nest, in different places of nesting: forest, park, rocky peak. The scenes are animated with small animals and statues

ITALIAN BINDING OF THE ERA. Brown morocco, gilded decor, star nets in the center of the dishes, small florets repeated in the center, double framing of two nets with motifs of interlacing, florets, back with nerves ornate embossed and gilded, golden slices. Box

PROVENANCE: Henri Gallice (ex-libris), with on the ex-libris the mention "XVIIe century, 600frs" - Marcel Jeanson (ex-libris), with the note "MS 127", in ink in the center of the ex libris Jeanson. This is one of Marcel Jeanson's 132 hunting manuscripts. He has been identified by Olivier Jeanson and appears under his title in the list of "Books of Marcel Jeanson" (quoted in With and around Marcel Jeanson, Suresnes, 2015, 345)
- Jules Thiébaud in 1966 (handwritten note from a bookseller commenting on the circumstances of acquisition) - Jean Blondelet (claw with lower backplate)
It is missing a sheet in the first notebook. Resumption of the back having preserved the original back

The treatise is dedicated to the hawks. This hunting bird enjoyed great celebrity during the Italian Renaissance, and especially at the Este court. The analysis of the text allowed Baudouin Van den Abeele, whom we thank here, to bring this manuscript closer to the Libro dei piaceri degli uccelli.
"As such, the text of this Della natura delli sparavieri does not correspond to any known and documented Italian flight hunting treaty, but the analysis of its chapters reveals analogies with sections of a 14-pound falconry treatise, the Libro dei piaceri degli uccelli Written in Milan in the 1470s, apparently by a certain Aloisio Besalu, it was redesigned and disseminated by Pietro Belbasso da Vigevano at the end of the 15th century, and is known by six manuscripts, including three autographs Belbasso is a kind of encyclopaedia of falconry, written from a wide variety of sources, and is the largest volume of Italian works on the subject. the manuscript of Milan [Biblioteca Trivulziana, 2141], dated 1510 by Belbasso, and which offers a text in fourteen books copied on 252 sheets, one can find there almost all the chapters [we keep this long table available according to demand.] Almost all chapters have an equivalent in the Milan treaty, and the materials are found in a largely parallel order on both sides, except towards the end. However, the wording of the content often diverges: sometimes the ms. 16th century. offers only a portion of the Belbasso chapter, sometimes it does not contain references to sources that are read from time to time in the source text. The language, modernized in comparison with that of Belbasso, is the Tuscan as it had become standardized in the written usages of the Peninsula, with some northern features that are reconciled with a Venetian origin.
As for the dependency relationship between the two texts, two hypotheses are possible. Either the 16th century manuscript. is the late copy of a fifteenth-century treatise on the effervescence, which is a source, unknown to this day, of Belbasso. Either the sixteenth century manuscript is composed of extracts from the treaty of this one. The succession of chapters, with rare exceptions, is parallel to that of the earlier Belbasso treaty, which argues in favor of the second hypothesis. "(B. Van den Abeele)
These recent works have thus made it possible to replace this manuscript, unidentified at the time of Marcel Jeanson, in the line of a stemma still imprecise. Let us bet however that future research on Italian falconry in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries will give this beautiful example so elegantly connected at the time, the status it obviously deserves.
