(Odessa 1856–1928 Munich) Setting off on the Falcon Hunt, signed F. Roubaud, oil on canvas, 59 x 83 cm, framed, (Rei)

Provenance: Private German property. Franz Roubaud: During the mid 1890’s Roubaud turned his attention to the subject of falconry, after General N.I.Kutepoff and other important artists had invited him to illustrate a splendid four volume edition on the Hunting of Princes, Tsars and Emperors in Russia (St. Petersburg, 1895–1911) . Roubaud was commissioned to illustrate the chapter on the releasing of hunting birds in other countries. His interest in this subject continued into the late 1910’s. We are grateful to Dr Olga Sugrobova-Roth for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
