Comments from Mrs Elisabeth Leix:

Baroness Editha von Vietinghoff-Riesch, born 1894 was probably the first practical Lady falconer in the DFO and she has successful flown both goshawk and peregrine falcons. The person in the middle is unknown.
The right person is Prof. Dr.
Arnold Oskar Conrad Harry Baron von Vietinghoff-Riesch born 1895, since 1932 DFO member, author of the book "Falken über uns ", Vice President of DFO 1936, closely friends with Alastair B. McArthur. who was several times in Neschwitz (home of Vetinghoff) and brought merlines from Scotland with. In Neschwitz at the property of Vietinghoffs, 1933 took place the first Falconry meet of the DFO. This was the first meeting where was hunted wild game, 4 hares, 25 rabbits and 4 pheasants, so 33 pieces of wild. The couple Vietinghoff-Riesch died together 1962 at a fatal car accident. A lot of pictures in "Falken über uns," were made from Rolle-Wegeesch. But von Vietinghoff also took good pictures. The photo was clearly from the 1930s and was probably taken in Neschwitz. So it is possible that the Picture was taken vom Alastair B. McArthur or Rolle-Wegeesch.

About Us

The FHT aims to establish a portal for the world's falconers and other interested parties to access aspects of the sport's rich heritage by linking existing physical archives, including international private and public collections, through the medium of an electronic archive. This archive features falconry furniture, works of art, books, correspondence from leading falconers and film and photographic material for the education and interest of falconer and scholar alike. We hope that, whatever your background or interest in our sport, you may find something of value through our archive to deepen your knowledge, understanding and passion for falconry and will help us, through your support, to preserve this precious cultural heritage for future generations.
