Chinese water bottle, Hu lu

Date Created: 01 July 2008

Lacquered Gourd for carrying water. Traditionally made from the gourd fruit. This device was used to carry water in very cold weather when all surface water was frozen. The container was carried inside the falconers coat close to his body warmth. When the hawk needed to drink it was tipped level to allow the water to flow into the open cup part. This is a wooden lacquered replica.
